Hope you all had a wonderful weekend! On Saturday we attended a Kentucky Derby party at Roht Marine, one of my favorite spots. If there is a party and dressing up is required, I'm all over it. Even better if you are there to support an amazing cause. All money raised was donated to Homes For Our Troops in Massachusetts. Home for our Troops builds and donates specially adapted custom homes for severely injured post – 9/11 Veterans, to enable them to rebuild their lives.
Putting together an outfit was a bit of a challenge because the weather was not cooperating in the morning. My son's soccer and baseball games were cancelled because of the rain. The party was outdoors (under a tent) overlooking the water. It was a little cool but muggy. So, my options were limited. I was originally going to wear a sleeveless black lace dress with sandals but thought I might be too cold in that. Had I known that the sun was going to come out and turn out to be a beautiful day, I would have stuck with my original plan. Anyway...on to what I actually wore. My outfit had to work with my fascinator headband which I bought a few years ago when we hosted a Derby party. I bought the blazer first because I knew it was going to be cool. It is a classic piece that I will wear a ton. Then I spotted this dress (with lavender stripes) and knew it was a perfect match. It is a tank dress so it will be perfect for summer. I actually ended up taking the blazer off anyway because it was so warm. I was unsure about the ground situation so I went with my favorite riding boots (on sale!). I finished the look with this clutch and some old pearl necklaces.
Quick story about the bracelet I'm wearing. My Dad went to the Kentucky Derby when my Mom was pregnant with me. He brought this bracelet back for her. I never knew this bracelet existed until my mother gave it to me a few weeks ago. You see, my Dad loved the Derby. We always watched it together and cheered on our favorite horses after lots of research. My husband and I even hosted his 70th birthday on Derby Day. So, this bracelet has more meaning than you can imagine. I thought of him on Saturday while I wore it. It was fun but I certainly missed his presence on one of his favorite days. Thank you to my Mom for saving it all these years and giving it to me, knowing how much I would appreciate it.
Some of the great hats spotted at the event....
The most beautiful sunset to end such a great night!
